HC notice over appointment of dalits

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat high court on Wednesday issued notice to the state government in response to a PIL seeking the benefit of priority in appointment and transfers in education department for the members of scheduled caste community, who are engaged in the business of skinning carcasses.
Petitioner Kaushik Parmar complained that this particular community was named in the notifications issued in 1987 and 1990, by which they were given priority in transfers in education department. This benefit was given, because they do not get residential accommodation due to untouchability practised in villages. They can manage to rent a house only in those villages where there is a presence of dalits.
